First look
A 22" wide-format advertising screen has been added to the top of TAP. This screen helps to educate users and give them a quick and unobtrusive way to discover the various products and services that TAP has to offer. The focus of this screen initially will be to only advertise the products and services that are available on TAP. This way, when a customer notices a product that interests them they can fulfill that transaction right there on TAP.

User interface
We have placed significant focus on making TAP as easy as possible to use, especially for the first-timer. Products are browsed and selected via a touchscreen interface using large graphical icons to depict each product option.

Certain products also require user information such as a name and contact number that is entered using an onscreen keyboard.

Users indicated a very strong preference to be addressed in their native tongue, and accordingly we have developed the self-service interface to be multilingual, starting with English, Afrikaans. We will add more languages as required.

Making payments
Once the customer has elected to purchase a product, they are prompted to enter their card into the card reader and, if appropriate, to enter their PIN number onto the PIN pad. The card details together with the product request are then submitted for processing. The whole process is concluded in real-time through an online connection to our acquiring bank. This means that offline transactions are not possible as the ability to authorise the payment would not be available.

An EMV certified hybrid card acceptance device (CAD) is installed to accept any debit and credit cards presented for payment. Currently all transactions use magstripe, but the CAD will also allow for the integration of chip cards which will replace magstripe cards in the future. The pin pad is EMV and Visa certified. It is used for secure authentication of the pin number.

The following cards are accepted:

We currently do not accept Diners Club cards but are able to if demand required.

Cash accepting and dispensing can also be added as an optional extra.
